Nomination period for the 2010 Millennium Technology Prize has begun
The Technology Academy Foundation has announced that nominations for the 2010 Millennium Technology Prize will be accepted from 1st March 2009. Invitations to submit nominations are being sent to approximately 5000 universities, research institutes and companies all over the world. The nomination period will end on 1st October 2009 when the process of selecting Finalists begins.
The names of the Laureates will be announced by the Technology Academy Foundation in April 2010, the identity of the ultimate Winner will be announced in June. The Millennium Technology Prize will be awarded to the Winner by Tarja Halonen, President of the Republic of Finland, at a celebratory event in Finlandia Hall.
Winner of the first Millennium Technology Prize 2004 was Tim Berners-Lee, who revolutionized electronic communications with the invention of of the World Wide Web.
Winner 2006 was Shudji Nakamura, who invented blue, green and white LEDs and the blue laser diode.
Winner 2008 was Robert Langer, who has developed innovative biomaterials for controlled drug release and tissue regeneration.
