{"id":8305,"date":"2023-06-22T11:04:50","date_gmt":"2023-06-22T08:04:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.merinova.fi\/offwind\/"},"modified":"2025-02-18T10:19:17","modified_gmt":"2025-02-18T08:19:17","slug":"offwind","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.merinova.fi\/en\/projects\/offwind\/","title":{"rendered":"OFFwind"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 3 years long OFFwind (Offshore Wind Turbine Farms) project started in November 2022 and ends in October 2025.<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">The OFFwind project is financed by the\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Interreg Aurora program, the Regional Council of Lapland<\/span><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">,\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Yrkesh\u00f6gskolan Novia, Lule\u00e5 University of Technology, Tampereen korkeakoulus\u00e4\u00e4ti\u00f6 sr, Vaasa Region Development Company VASEK and Oy Merinova Ab.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The overall objective of the OFFwind project is to contribute to boost the uptake of offshore wind energy in the Interreg Aurora program area by overcoming the arctic challenges <a href=\"https:\/\/www.interregaurora.eu\/about-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.interregaurora.eu\/about-us<\/a>\/.<\/p>\n<p>Especially the offshore areas of the Gulf of Bothnia and the Norwegian Sea outside Northern Norway provide many potential areas for offshore wind parks. However, there are ice and other arctic challenges which must be overcome to fully utilize this potential. The OFFwind project aims at contributing to overcoming these challenges. Methods and models to reduce the impact of the harsh weather conditions will be developed and shared.<\/p>\n<p>OFFwind will provide solutions, through case studies, to the limiting arctic challenges by developing methods &amp; models to reduce the effect of these; deicing methods, ice mechanical models for ice-structural interaction &amp; dimensioning criteria, assessing wind and wave forces and loads, seabed conditions and access to farms and use of zero-carbon emitting building materials. The project also creates crossborder knowledge networks enhancing the green transition in the program area by providing applied research and new knowledge necessary for the establishment of offshore windpower parks in the area.<\/p>\n<p>The OFFwind project\u2019s main target groups include both the public and private sector.
