Vaasa’s goal is to create the world’s greenest battery ecosystem in Finland. The GigaVaasa area provides sustainable battery chemistry in an industrial environment for players in the battery value chain. The aim has been to attract battery operators committed to a sustainable system to locate in the region. In addition to sustainability, the industrial park environment will provide an information environment to ensure the competitiveness of companies well into the future. The project aims to promote the next phase of the GigaVaasa concept, moving from land reservation and permitting to the implementation phase in the project area.

The project’s primary objective is to respond to the development priorities identified as critical at this stage. These include: developing a customer management system for operators who have reserved land, communicating progress in the area and preparing for the growing demand for labour in the region. The project will also prepare the ground for diverting traffic in the GigaVaasa area to the sea and rail.

The project will result in a client system to support the activities. The project has planned an attractiveness campaign together with other actors, taking into account the needs of the battery value chain. The aim of the project is to create an event concept to support the development of the battery value chain in the GigaVaasa area. During the project, the event concept has been created and piloted. The event concept and the communication plan created will help to reach the most relevant stakeholders for the development of the GigaVaasa area. The project also aims to promote the GigaVaasa area’s logistics connections to the port and main roads, as well as to the Finnish rail network. The role of the project representatives is to provide strategic and visionary material to support the work of the authorities, based on the GigaVaasa regional strategy model.
