Merinova’s Morning Coffee Guest: VEO Oy

On Friday, 21 November 2025, Merinova welcomed its second Morning Coffee Guest, Mats Warg (Director, Automation) from VEO. The concept aims to highlight the expertise of local companies and professionals in a relaxed morning coffee setting, and this time our table was joined by a long-standing influencer in the energy sector. Mats has been with VEO for 25 years and currently leads the company’s automation division, which has grown significantly over the years and today employs around 50 specialists. The main theme of the discussion centered on the major transformation taking place in the energy industry and VEO’s position at the heart of it.

VEO Oy

VEO Oy is a Nordic technology company specializing in energy automation and electrification, known for its ability to deliver comprehensive solutions for power plants, industrial sites, and energy system modernizations. The company employs more than 500 people, and its turnover is approaching 150 million euros.

The company’s history highlights strong Ostrobothnian engineering expertise and a capacity to grow alongside technological shifts. VEO is owned by its former and current employees, which makes it an independent, agile operator that genuinely reflects the people behind it.

Over the decades, VEO has played a key role in electrifying hydropower, wind power, the marine industry, and industrial processes. The company’s philosophy is guided by three principles: quality, transparency, and continuous improvement. Today, its strategic focus areas include energy system modernization, battery technologies, renewable solutions, and lifecycle services for delivered systems.

Around the Coffee Table

The morning’s discussion explored the transformation of the energy sector, the solutions VEO is currently working on, and what kind of expertise the future will require in the region. Topics covered over morning coffee included:

🔹 Integration and automation of energy systems
🔹 Battery technologies and new energy solutions
🔹 Lifecycle services for delivered systems
🔹 The growing importance of cybersecurity
🔹 Vaasa’s unique position as an energy hub and how to make use of its potential
🔹 The skills shortage and the future workforce

The key driver of VEO’s growth is clear: skilled people.

The conversation reinforced the view that Ostrobothnia is currently operating at the core of the energy industry, with local companies playing a crucial role in modernizing the entire energy system. Mats brought to the table long-term insights, experience-based observations, and perspectives straight from the field, where technology, energy, and expertise meet every day.

A warm thank you to Mats Warg for an inspiring morning and valuable insights!
